Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Engineering Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing staff and ensuring the fleet's timely presentation for operations. This must be done in line with safety, technical, and quality standards, ensuring the maintenance depot is operated safely during the assigned shift.

Key Qualities (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):

Essential:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Depot or Workshop Supervisor.
  • Safety-Conscious: A strong focus on safety and safe practices in operations.
  • Engineering Knowledge: Proven understanding of engineering theory and practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ability to lead and promote workplace improvements.
  • Teamwork: Capable of fostering a team environment focused on safe working practices.
  • Technical Competency: Understanding maintenance specifications and technical drawings.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and work with managers and cross-functional teams.

Desirable:

  • Qualifications: Craft Qualification, Rolling Stock Maintenance Qualification, and/or a Certificate in Supervisory Management or equivalent.

Competencies:

  • Leadership and staff development.
  • Decision-making.
  • Safety-focused technical knowledge.
  • Planning, monitoring, and control.
  • IT knowledge, especially SAP.

Responsibilities:

  • Work Supervision: Accountability for all work in the Depot and Mobile Workshops. Ensure quality standards are met and safety is maintained.
  • Safety in Operations: Ensure trains are safe for service and address any safety issues promptly.
  • Staff Supervision: Guide staff in their duties, providing instructions to meet reliability and output targets.
  • Depot Operations: Ensure efficient and safe depot operation during the shift, maintaining communication with other departments (e.g., Central Traffic Control, train crews).
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts in Continuous Improvement, including completing major projects annually.
  • Contractor Monitoring: Ensure contractors adhere to standards and perform corrective coaching for staff when necessary.
  • Safety Management: Ensure adherence to the Safety, Quality, Technical, and Environmental Management Systems, and be competent in emergency response protocols.
  • Safety Tours: Conduct regular safety tours and brief staff on important documents and information related to team safety and performance.
