Tech Talent Tuesday- Katie Moussouris

Katie Moussouris is an American computer security researcher, entrepreneur, and leading pioneer in vulnerability disclosure. Katie has been was featured in two Forbes lists: The World’s Top 50 Women in Tech and America’s Top 50 Women in Tech. She is the founder and CEO of Luta Security a consultancy to help organizations and governments work collaboratively with hackers through bug bounty programs.

Moussouris has over 40 years’ experience working in cyber security and technology. Before founding Luta, Katie worked at Microsoft where she created the bug bounty program and previously served as Chief Policy Officer at HackerOne, a vulnerability disclosure company based in San Francisco, With a background as a computer hacker, she has a unique understanding of the measure’s companies need to take and implement to ensure a secure future.

Moussouris is best known for her ongoing work advocating responsible security research and this is at the core of Luta Security. The company advocates for a comprehensive approach to advance the security maturity of governments and organisations and have helped several large and complex clients do so including the USA Department of Defence (DOD).

Moussouris was instrumental in building the US government first bug bounty programs “Hack the Pentagon,” which was followed by “Hack the Airforce”. The programs have enabled the DOD to identify and resolve security vulnerabilities within Defence Department public facing websites through crowdsourced security. Since their launch trough the programs the DoD has resolved nearly 500 vulnerabilities in public facing systems with bug bounty challenges and saved the DoD millions of dollars. Other clients of note include the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Facebook, and Zoom.

Moussouris is well respected and renowned within the cyber security and technology industry. She has used her passion and knowledge for computer security and vulnerability disclosure to establish Luta Security as one of the most successful cybersecurity organisations worldwide.
