Tech Talent Tuesday- Dr. Wendy Oke

3

Dr. Wendy Oke is the founder of TeachKloud/Kloud Academy, the hugely successful cloud-based platform founded in 2017 that streamlines processes for pre-school and early-years childcare providers.

The platform uses artificial intelligence to auto-suggest early childhood curriculum framework goals, allowing the teachers more time to focus on childcare needs. It has revolutionized the way educators approach learning and development.

It was during Wendy’s time studying at Cork Institute of Technology and while working in early childhood services, that she discovered how teachers were spending large portions of time on paperwork, meaning less time on child development and support. Oke started TeachKloud to overcome this problem and platform has enabled paperless transition for many pre-schools and nurseries – freeing up more time for teachers and caregivers.

During Covid-19 the platform was an invaluable tool that allowed children to continue their education despite not being able to physically attend school. The Kloud Academy was launched in early 2020 and the online education platform is packed with original video content that parents can use for teaching young children at home. It also has a useful instant messenger tool to communicate with parents, keep users updated on policies and request parental consent.

The platform has been a huge success and in January 2020, the Cork-based start-up announced that it has raised €750,000, with investment led by Frontline Ventures and backed by the AIB Discovery Fund and others. The funding has been used to hire additional full-time engineering resources in Cork and has helped fuel the company’s growth into the UK and US markets.

In 2022, Oke was shortlisted for PWC’s Businesswoman of the year. Her company and personal success are inspiring. You can keep up to date with TeachKloud here.
